UJ Takes On Struggling UFH In Varsity Cup

On Thursday the 24th of August, the University of Johannesburg’s Football team (UJ) will take on the University of Fort Hare (UFH) in round five of the Varsity Football Cup at Bunting Sports Complex.

UFH enters the match with no wins to their name. This follows the team’s three consecutive defeats in all their previous games with one massive loss, where they lost seven nil to defending champions, Tshwane University of Technology So far this is the highest score in this year’s tournament.

UJ go to the game as favourites to win following an incredible match against their Johannesburg rivals, Wits University. UJ managed to score 4 goals within 90 minutes, with just one against them last week while playing away at Wits.

The unanswered question left for tomorrow is whether UJ will pick up from where they left off last week, or if UFH will end their winless campaign. UFH have conceded 14 goals so far and are yet to register their first goal.

Both teams will be looking forward to a victory to move up to the table, UJ is in the 4th position with six points from 4 games played. While UFH finds themselves at the bottom of the table with a zero in the point column, despite having a game in hand.

Should UFH lose tomorrow, their chances of a semi-final spot will be very slim. They will have to win all remaining fixtures and pray for negative results for the top four teams. By such luck, perhaps they might progress.
