Limpopo Police confirmed today that the universities security personnel had fired rubber bullets at protesting students at the University of Limpopo last night. At first it was alleged that two students had been killed and that was the message that was spread around amongst students on social media.
Students were beaten and one being stabbed in his ankle by bouncers today around 18;30 p.m. after police had left the premises.
Earlier today at The University of Johannesburg’s library area SRC leaders and other student political leaders mobilised UJ students to form part of the protest for the shutdown of the campus pending the 8% fee increment proposed by Minister of Higher Education
As much as the #Feesmustfall campaign has sparked a national debate about the effect of fees on the poor South African citizen, there’s a small bunch of people that fee increments affect even more and those are international students.
